About Shot was taken on the drive back down from visiting the Haleakala Crater whose summit is 10,023 ft high. We drove in to and out of clouds going to and from Haleakala. What an experience! Seemed so odd to be looking down at the clouds instead of up! Sam helped me make a few PS adjustments to a blown area in the clouds. Thanks bud.

A most interesting perspective. At first I thought it was a photo from a plane. Not often do you get a chance for a shot like this. Well done.

The whole experience up there was sureal - just wish I could have captured some better shots. Fortunately for us, our son Rob was along and he did. Now HE is a really dedicated photographer and takes his time to set up and then adjusts his settings many times when shooting the same still shot. He, too, uses bracketing and a variety of filters and lens. He's young enough to carry his gazillion pound backpack with all his camera equipment - I can't, so I have to limit myself to sort of an all-purpose lens and backup lens, extra battery, and a few filters - plus the "how-to" manual as I am still learning to use this camera. LOL Perhaps by the time we get to Alaska or take a long awaited trip to the northwestern states I will have learned which F-stops and shutter speeds to use for what shots.

hi Jan,
this is quite an amazing area and stunning photo. Looking down on the clouds feels so strange. This is one of those examples of a shot that could use a .6 Split ND Filter. Your clouds would come out more detailed with even more depth. Also your foreground would then be more saturated and defined, creating even more depth. I like how you locked in the bottom right hand corner,by running the foliage down into that area. This makes for a stronger composition and less linear, which would be the danger of this type of configuration.

Thanks Mary - the trip up and back from the Crater was so neat. Don't remember ever driving through clouds like that before. Surreal.

This looks so good in the panorama. I love how the clouds seem to be rising up from below the hills. Your placement of that clump of trees is a great compositional element.
