Hi Dave, as Doyle says, you can take only 1 photo in RAW format and get your different exposures with other program, is a good idea (now, most of my HDRs are like this), but never is the same...The camera can't get all the registers you get with different photos. Anyway, for images with moving elements is the best option.

Thanks, Doyle. Let me first confess that I am totally RAW ignorant. I have not bothered with it since I do not even know what is involved in bringing it into a jpg format, whether RAW can be worked on in PS7 or what.
So if I understand your question, you are asking why I don't shoot 1 photo in RAW and alter the exposure later in software?
Hmm, if that is so, the only reason (other than I've never shot in RAW) is that I kind of get off on the challenge of actually taking mulitple exposures of the same scene and using the camera to do work.
I promise, I'll learn about RAW and its advantages... for right now, I'm trying to be a half-asst fotografer, though.

This one worked out well for you Dave!! It appears, it takes a few trial and error sessions . . . I've done a few . . . but still struggle. Let me ask you a serious question. Why not shoot RAW, then convert with F-2, F-1, 0, F+1, F+2? Thats guaranteed to be identical shots save for exposure. (It's how I've been practicing).
Regards, Doyle I <~~~~~

Well Dave, I think this photo deserves and award. Not only for the technique and the colors. The idea and the composition are awesome. Despite this is an HDR, the lights and shadows are so true here...For me this is your best picture in this technique. Best to you Bernar

Well,Kapetane I must say that you are fantastic !!! but I don't like what I see through the door...just Empty room....and than my first impression "Empty rooms" by Gary Moore....excuse me if you not liked it .....
Loneliness is your only friend A broken heart that just won't mend is the price you pay. It's hard to take when love grows old, The days are long and the nights turn cold when it fades away.
You hope that she will change her mind But the days drift on and on You'll never know the reason why - she's gone.
You see her face in every crowd, You hear her voice but you're still proud so you turn away. You tell yourself that you will be strong, But your heart tells you - this time you're wrong.
You hope that she will change her mind But the days drift on and on You'll never know the reason why - she's gone.
Empty rooms - where we learn to live without love Empty rooms - where we learn to live without love Empty rooms - where we learn to live without love
Oh no in an empty room Loneliness is your only friend Oh she's gone
And your happ'ning end

Thanks, John. That interior exposure is thanks to High Dynamic Range (HDR) technique.... I've been playing steadily with it for a week...

Thank you, Sheryl. This is called HDR photography, High Dynamic Range. You take several exposures of the same subject with a tripod and at various exposure levels to capture all the various light differentials. You then run it through an HDR program (Photomatix) and this is your result...
Tonight I focused on capturing the exterior with a properly exposed interior. On this shot, I also had a very bright sunset out the other door. Yet the ground is visible out the other door.
I'm sure you know how it is shooting inside a building toward a window. You either blow out the outside or the interior of the room is too dark. This takes care of those lighting problems.
I have more coming, just can't add them until tomorrow. The technique is awesome.... and fun.

Dave, I love this...so what do you mean, "7 exposure values"? Are you sandwiching 7 seperate photos, all of the same image in a program? Or is this done in the camera itself? Either way, it looks great! I love the glow from the inner door...looks like something is about to be revealed! :) ~Sheryl
