Well, perhaps the wish to deliver, deliver, deliver, and also as many different things as possible, overrides the wish to get to "know" the subject better. A study needs time and real interest for going in depth rather than moving quickly from artefact to artefact, assuming that mastering something can be done in zero time ;-)

I can be only glad that there are still people out there who do think about such matters and question things again and again.

Cheers,

Nick

Hi Nick,
No, I don't think you are the only one that feels that way. I think the realization that a single subject can produce thousands of different photo opportunties is a very mature way of approaching photography. What kind of thought does it take to snap a shot and say to yourself... "been there, done that" and move on to the next half hearted attempt :)

It's just that which I have the feeling that it doesn't happen, Andre. We simply shoot too little. I think that in general the film roles or the memory cards should always be less than needed.

I somehow have the feeling that we forget more and more the value of trying this and trying that still on the very same subject - we move too quickly to always new subjects without that kind of extensive study that could reveal at least some of the "secrets" of the current subject.

It might also be only some impression of mine.

Hi Nick,
Yes, I always say that one of the best features of today's digital cameras is the option to just snap away at no expense. I'm not suggesting that we don't take our time while shooting, rather try all kinds of angles and situations. Then pick the best ones afterwards. Sometimes our own first impressions are not as good as maybe the third shot we take.

Hi Andre, and thanks a lot for the reply! So there has been much more light than one might thing by seeing the image? Well, then it would also be a nice achievement because of this too, since the light looks rather moderate as one would expect on an image of spring. (Less light because of "less sun" than in summer.)

I know what you mean talking about branches and such things. Sometimes after a shot I also wondered what might have happened if I falled down in the lake with the camera simply because I didn't notice the low lying branches beside my feet ;-)

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the nice comment. To answer your question about the narrow aperature. I think probably what happened was I was taking a lot of macro shots just before this image and I just switched over to an auto mode. I most likely didn't even set the auto landscape mode that automatically sets the camera to take the image with a narrow aperature like you suggested.
As far as the branch on the left goes, I didn't really even see it when taking the shot. I was just "blinded by the light" so to speak. I have on occasion moved some branches that got in my way if I notice them at the time. :)

Thanks Andrzej,
I suppose it is Spring somewhere in the world :)
I liked the light on this one too. I can't remember why I didn't post it back in May.

Andre, truly is not winter here yet and you thinking about spring, hey a lot of people do the same. Nice dreamy like and luminous image, great light on ferns creates wondrous contrast with the tree trunks. Cheers, NJ

Thanks Kes,
The light is really nice at the time of day this one was taken. I was really looking for some macros, as I recal, but then noticed how nice the light looked in the woods.

The light/shadow on the ferns has a cool effect here, Andre!

It's just about great with all that green and the great details on the plants and the trees in the background. The combination of green and grey conveys the spring look and feel very strongly - especially that light green of the new vegetation. But above all I find the light itself very nice here! It is enough for seeing but not as strong to flash into the view.

Perhaps that partially taken branch at the left could be left out (though I know that photographers usually don't carry hatchets when shooting. ;-)) And perhaps also a bit more sharpness on the plants right on the front.

Andre, just out of curisoty, why ddin't you use some narrower aperture here? Low light?
