So beautiful, David. Whether or not B&W reaches the 'soul' of an image depends on the image, in my opinion. some things just work better in color, and some in B&W, in my experience.:)

I think that there are two events, joined at the image. The first being your initial thoughts or visual "discovery" leading to the execution of the image. The second, is the perception of the viewer. I do think that taking a usually color subject like a rose, presenting it in quiet monotones, leads the viewer to find meaning other than the expected. I like this image as it glows with light and renewed promise.
