About This "Fool's Gold Beetle" (Aspidimorpha tecta a species of tortoise beetle, 8-10mm in length)is greeted or rather inspected by a small wasp. The wasps (of which there were two around the beetle) lay their eggs in the back of the beetle (through the gap between the two plates of the golden coloured elytra). The beetle are vegetarian, and in this area the leaves of the "morning Glory" is the main food source.

Taken with natural light under overcast conditions.

Hi Avi, it was about 10cm with my setup at a magnification ratio of roughly 1.8 times lifesize. The high magnification ratio & low light conditions forced a shallow depth of field. I have other shots of the same beetle taken with the ringlash but the attractive reflections of the beetle do not appears as natural as here. Regards.

Fascinating transparency to the Beetle. It is genius to show this creature with its predator in such a beautiful fashion. Thanks for the knowledgeable explanation!

Hi Jen, thanks for the comment. The headshield (pronotum) and the body shield (elytra) of this beetle is extended well beyound the body, like the shell of a tortoise. In this case the Elytra and Pronotum is transparent while the body underneath carries the shiny gold colour. Regards.

So amazing dear Joggie, its like a golden shield...is this beetle inclosed, or is the outside transparant?
Looks out of the world, the wasp so clear and excactly knowing what its doing...nature at its best:)
