Thanks Avi for the nice comment - my regards also extended to your wife! You are correct, I stdied B.Sc. with Zoology and Botany my main subjects. Although Zoology was my favourite subject, I landed a job at a Botanical research institute at my university and ended up with a Masters in Botany, more specifically in Vegetation Ecology. My general love for nature stems from my upbringing through my father who loved the outdoors and I accompanied him on many fishing and hunting trips. Although I never picked up on hunting (never shot a buck myself - but loved the walk in the african bush with my father, gaining knowledge of the veld and all the creatures living in and from it) or fishing I developed a deep respect for the beauty to be found everywhere - its there for all to see but only those who really try will see it! Be well my friend!

Your knowledge about the macro life is amazing. THAT, above all, makes your work stand out among others in the same genre. I was discussing with my wife about your Fool's Gold Beetle shot, and she was of the opinion that you must have studied zoology and/or botany. Did you ?

You pointed to one of my own critiques here Eb - I would like to have slightly more DoF to get those back ones sharper but went for a shallower Dof - mainly dictated by very low light conditions (free hand shot - just find a tripod restrictive most of the times)and an unwilligness to go for a higher ISO to retain definition and prevent too much noise. Regards.

Composition, hues and tonality are excellent, Joggie! My eyes are a bit confused by the two anthers out of focus in the rear. The blur is too close and seems to draw the eye away from the subject. This may be just my problem and diminishes as I become more familiar with the image! Regards!
