Thank you Roger for your comment, to capture this image I needed to get in to the sea with my camera and a tripod for about 4 feet heigh and I didn't want to carry my precious 43 mm and my mamiya, but everything was ok and I got my image.

I am astonished that out of the 45s needed to "calm" the sea the seagull stayed still for long enough to register properly. It makes for a very unusual and effective image. That jagged, top-heavy rock undermined by wave erosion also makes another strong contrast with the weirdly smoothed-out sea. A wonderful photo, a real work of art! I was going to remark on that 43mm Mamiya lens again but I see you can create the same quality of image from a Canon zoom lens! Wow!!
