The steps or shadows(can't remember which!)are an unwanted element in the photo but shooting to the left of the bench would have the tree-bench angle which i liked.It's late now but I may explore the possibility of cloning out the grey shadows and creating a simple white area behind the bench.If it works out well I'll post it.

An excellent composition of a few simple elements - essentially the tree and the bench. The still water adds to the empty atmosphere. Avoiding the steps (or are they shadows?) on the left could make it feel even more deserted, but I guess that short of moving the bench this could be rather a challenge!
