About Today I made a walk on the Mont Valerien, a green hill top with an altitude of 140 metres with a panoramic view over Paris. One of the views I had was over a cemetery with another pedestrian of the age so many others finding their end of life in a war.
Originally a World War I cemetery, the Suresnes American Cemetery and Memorial just outside Paris, France now shelters the remains of U.S. dead of both wars. The 7.5-acre cemetery contains the remains of 1,541 Americans who died in World War I and 24 Unknown dead of World War II.

Many years ago the world was much wiser, today only fiew still practise.
But even,it's still danger job, because is danger to be right in case where the officials are wrong.I know something about that.

Good Idea dear Sacha. Selective colouring is a great way of enhancing the contrast and putting the walking man in the spot light.

I like the idea very much. I might try somnething. Keep it in B&W and only the person in color. That would give a differnt attention and might work very well. Let me know what you think of my idea.
Good day, Sascha

Amazing... all these crosses really makes lines into the field... that makes the watcher dizzy... don't say that is something bad... NOT AT ALL! that is an EXCELLENT element Paul, and I love it... the young man in vivid colors adds the main 'spot' into the composition that needed, excellent image!

hartelijke groeten,
Paul

I think symmetry wins over rules. The image is a nice reminder of the sacrifice of those that tried to make the world a better place at their own demise. I like the strong colors and action of the man in the middle. Just magnifies the white crosses all in the rows. A fitting tribute to the cooperation of the nations back in the early century of the 1900's.
Be well, Stan 7

Reload after 14 views and 2 comments. Picture was unchanged but I preferred to correct my own comment.
I start with posting these 2 comments in my first comment:

AJ Miller Non Aligned Photographers {K:44648} 9/25/2008
Excellent shot, with the colour of the guy's clothes contrasting wonderfully with the green & white of the rest. If I were to nitpick, I would perhaps suggest moving the guy off-centre a touch.

Thanks for your visit and comment AJ,
I thought about what you said before posting as all rules tell to avoid putting an eye catcher in the centre. Maybe at one third or so. I had to make a compromise however as the grave field was not unlimited. At left and at right I had distracting objects which I had to cut off by cropping. Taking away a big part of the graves at left would have been an option at cost of the symmetry.
But thank you in any case for reminding me to the aesthetic rule of thumb so many people prefer.
best regards,
Paul
