About The name of the golden silk orb-weavers refers to the color of the spider silk, not the color of the spider itself.Yellow threads of their web shine like gold in sunlight. Xanthurenic acid, two quinones and an unknown fourth compound contribute to the yellow color. There have been attempts to use the silk commercially as garment material, but spider silk is not as easy to harvest as the silk of the domestic Silkworm. This species is Nephila clavata and it ranges from India to Japan where it is known as a Joro Spider.
