Hi RG, glad you had a good trip. I could do a little Mexico myself. We just got over O F today. Been really cold for the last week. Snowed hard all day today. Might go skiing tomorrow. Glad you liked the shot of my neighbors. I love this time of year when we get so many so close to us. This is when I wish I had a big L lens to point at them. In another life!! Keep in touch, you are a good influence on me. Be well, Stan

Hi Keith, The Bison are sold too the person that wants to go out and shoot it in the pasture. They sell the Harvest of Bulls, Cows and young Bison. I think the prices are dependent on size. $1200, $800, $600. The person is driven out to the herd and is then able to shoot the Bison. then the Ranch Hands take a special boom truck to pick up the Bison. It is gutted out, skinned and loaded up so that the person can take it to a butcher and have the meat cut and wrapped. I will take a picture of where the hunts happen to make it a complete story. Thanks, have a great Christmas and New year, hope you get some time off. Be well, Stan

Excellent capture Stan. Very interesting about and comments between you and Harry. Who harvests the Bison? and in the paddock? Cheers. Keith

Harry, the deer usually have some natural death and automobile encounters as well. The Whitetail population is very large here and the Mule deer are more susceptible to predation because they live in the more alpine environment. The Whitetail live close to the creek in the very thick brush. They hide much better than the Mule deer do. I think their behavior is suited for the highest rate of survival in the winter months. Also from time to time they herds go through different disease cycles as well. It is interesting to watch as they come through my property between the hills and the valley where the center pivot is on the google earth of my area. Be well, Stan

OK Stan, local deer here also have summer or wintercoat, the latter in a dark color i believe. Yes, I know they sleep in groups, we call that " in een leger | literally translated ' in an army ' . Wolves will be tough , i can recall they work in a group driving deer in a 'trap' . hhmmmmm,

The deer have a good thick coat by now. They get out of the wind, lay in the sun during the day if it is sunny. They like my horse hay and also graze in hay pastures when they are not covered with snow. They adapt well. The wolf population is harder on them than the weather. Also they fall prey to big cats as well. I have found deer beds within 10 meters from my house. Be well, Stan

Tell me, how do the deer survive the cold, in a pack in the woods out of the wind ?

Yes Joe, the Balds are quick for road kill and big clean up jobs. They will hunt and fish when they have to, but easy food is to their liking. The Bison Harvest is quite popular for them. Word seems to travel every year as the congregate for the spoils. The Ravens and Magpies are usually there as well waiting their turn too! Thanks for the comment. Be well, Stan

I could count on one hand the number of times I've seen eagles and you've got 32 in one shot, very impressive. From what I heard and seen, eagles are opportunists. They would together if they didn't share a common interest which is the Bison left overs. Very interesting "about" with an excellent image. Regards, Joe

Yes Dave, when they find a common feeding ground they seem to share pretty well. Seems like a common defense. Strength in numbers in the evening. We have many predators here. I have watched this since the Bison Harvest began 8 years ago.. As the Harvest begins the pairs and juveniles show up almost daily as they begin to reap the harvest so to speak. Balds like to have some easy fat meals in the winter. This is one of them. Some stay along the river for most of the winter. Be well, Stan

The Eagles played hotel california ;-) Wow what a sight, north american eagles with that white head. Bison harvest (...) sounds obvious but the produce is bison meat for consumers ? I do see a few buzzards locally and other birds of prey but this , wow, what a crowd. Harry

Thanks for asking me to post it Martin! This is a great time of year to see these in mass. I am blessed to have the view that I do. Hope to get some more of these soon. -20f this morning and not going out to shoot them just yet. I am going to start shooting some more film when it is cold as well. My film cameras are not as sensitive to the cold. Will be putting that scanner to work in the near future with some slide and negatives. Thanks again. Be well, Stan

Stan,
This is so awesome to see that many Eagles at the same time. I didn't know that Eagles were social birds. I thought they were more loaners. They could sure take care of our growing rodent population here in Texas.
Thank you for sharing and making us all envious... ;)

Thanks so much John. I was shooting hand held and was limited to the F11 if I still could keep my shutter speed up. I was really happy that I captured this as clear as I did. Thanks so much for the nice comment and encouragement. I do appreciate it. Be well, Stan

No Saad, the time I counted 70 I only had my binoculars. This day I put on my tele and tried to put on a sneak to get as close as possible. It was cold and clear. They were sunning themselves before going out to breakfast. Have a great weekend my friend!! Be well, Stan

Very good shot, clear image both to the tree AND to the background too... big focused area...that f/11 works very fine here as also the exposure, fast, enough fast to ...end any shining from the snow something very nice for me.
