Well, the first good thing I liked was the fact that you thought about making it in monochrome. I love b/w portraits, because they remove the distractions and let us concentrate on the most important thing in a portrait for me - the expression. For post processes, there is unfortunately no formula that I can share quickly with you - but I can tell you how I learn.. by looking at other great portrait photograpgers' works. Photoshop or any other editing s/w is needed, of course, and then bit by bit you try to do stuff, fail, curse.. and in the process end up learning.
Hope this helps, as a start. I will look out for your works and if have any specific suggestion, I won't hold it back.

Avi - as you suspected - almost straight from the camera. I am in the process of learning how to edit photo's. So only thing that I tried was to desaturate the coloured photo. That is it. At this stage I am too scared to mess up a nice shot, so I MUST try to take a perfect photo. I work only on manual because I like to be in control and I love the challenge.
