oh, andre, my friend ..
it is good to see this shot in winter (and gratifying to know who gave idea to a friend). I like the idea of the "plan" that is created with the row of trees and the idea that not captured in full follow the image
ciao

I try to have a longer look and see what's up on the image, Andre. The least that I can do for a bit of respect and interest to works of other guys here.

Now that you say, I see even better. Indeed the "texture" was generated by the combination of bright white snow flakes in front of the darker treets. Great effect, and I will surely have to try that. But it will be hard to do, since only a bit of deviation from the right settings would make the effect vanish, I guess.

The wires do add that human element too. It is a bit of "deserted" this way, but this implies also that there is human presence there, and that it is only now that it is absent. Thanks for making me aware of that. Such images have a huge amount of things to see but they are subtle and so the image grows on us, as you already have said some time ago.

Cheers!

Nick

Thanks Ray,
I think these kind of images lend themselves well to B&W. They can be simple but effective.

Thanks Nick.
I can always count on you to come up with a nice detailed comment, that shows you have carefully examined the image. :)
I have a feeling that the "texture" that you mention in this one might come about due to the combination of bright white with the millions of snow flakes in the air. I can't say it was intentional to get that effect. (a happy accident, as we talked about before) So now that I have recorded my camera settings, I know how to do it again in a snow storm. I would imagine the trick would be the right aperture along with the focal length. I understand what you are saying about the "almost balance" of the image too. What I really liked was the way the very fine wires on the fence show up so nicely, giving that little bit of human element that our eyes can relate to in this kind of image.
Thanks again Nick.

Thanks Shirley,
There were some elements of the turkey shot that I really liked, and others that I wasn't too sure about. Thanks for the feedback.

An excellent Winter shot my dear friend. I love the skeletal trees combined with the solitary evergreen. Looks wonderful in these great monochromatic tones. My very best wishes to you as always......Ray

This is a very very "sketchy" one, Andre, which fully took advantage of the "whiteness" of the scene, and the placement of silhouetts in an otherwise uniformly white canvas. But even in this graphics-like attitude I still see the details on the branches. Not only on the tree at the right, which perhaps offers more possibilities for capturing the texture. I also see textures and finest details on the other ones with much less place for the textures to evolve. I wonder now if that was due to the extreme white on the dark silhouettes of leafless trees, but it must have been more than that. At least for me... my own attempts for that never worked to that degree. The exposure balance looks perfect. To get the textures and at the same time the typical look of reduced visibility is not just an everyday job.

The composition is unusual to me but not less interesting. It looks exactly balanced vertically and it looks just *almost* balanced horizontally to me, and this kind of deviation (if you like) from absolute balance brought a very alive attitude. It looks perhaps less "beautiful" than a totally balanced one could look, but for that it looks also more real, in the sense of the reality that is perceivable on some older simple paintings hanging on the walls of a country house.

Without wanting to invade your privacy, I guess that such trusted moments are quite important to your photography. And with "trusted" I don't mean only the own four walls. That's just my impression.

Very good one!

Nick

Hi Malules,
He is one of the best I've ever seen! A beautiful player and a role model for all young athletes.
Here is one from my portfolio.

I was lucky enought to get down at press level for a few close-ups in Toronto last year. Attached is one you will like.

Thanks Shirley,
I'm glad you like it. It seemed a natural for minimalist B&W.
That was one side of the road. but the side I was on had a different treat for me. See the attachment for a flock of wild turkeys making their way through the heavy snow.
I wasn't completely happy with the turkey images, or I would have posted them. But I thought they were interesting just the same.
