Superb image...again except the subject that surely is very interesting, the way the sunlight adds different parts of colors (between shadows and lights) and that golden looks especial on the Chrysler's tower, makes the image really incredible! My best regards!

Thanks for the info my friend. I only shoot in raw and I am aware that there is a lot of information in the format. I guess I do produce the odd HDR image inadvertantly but I usually do my 'playing around' for home use only. I have 'dabbled' for decades as I mentioned before and these days I try to get what I want in a shot at the time of shooting. I touch up minor aspects of a photo, crop here and there and size it. That's about it AJ. I sincerely mean what I say in my comments from time to time, I am in awe of you guys that experiment and I love the results of your experimentation. Me, I'm just a bog standard amateur these days with insufficient time to devote to postwork. Well done to you my dear friend, I love your work, keep them rolling......Cheers....Ray

Many thanks Ray - I was waiting for someone to ask about HDR!
HDR = high dynamic range. An image shot in RAW holds a lot more information than you can see with normal processing. If you decrease the exposure by one stop in PS you may see more detail in the clouds. If you increase it you may see more detail in the shadows. HDR is a technique for combining a number of exposures to reveal the wider range of detail that they hold.
This is a "fake" HDR image, derived from a single RAW shot by adjusting the exposure in PS. It also works with JPGs, but to a lesser extent as they hold less information. A true HDR image is derived from a series of bracketed shots taken with different exposures.
I've been quite amazed by what it can achieve - and I've only been playing with it since Sunday. It works much better with some types of shots than others, and can be used to achieve various effects (generally enhancing an image, bringing out detail in B&W, creating surreal effects, to name a few). I'm afraid that I may never see photos the same way again!

Beautiful golden lighting illuminating this jumble of NY architecture my dear AJ. The depth of the shot is excellent and has captured this densely populated area perfectly. The details and tones are wonderful my friend. I understand that postwork techniques are employed and you have created the result AJ but my knowledge of these things is virtually zero. What is HDR processing????? My very best wishes to you as always......Ray

Many thanks, Keith. I have just discovered HDR and worry that I will never see photographs the same way again. My technique is developing fast (since Sunday actually...) and I think I have got over the initial tendency towards over-production.
