About I've heard that a good indication of how well balanced an eco-system is can be judged by the strength of the frog population. Well, our's must be pretty well balanced, because I haven't seen this many frogs for a long time.
Taken in some reclaimed wetlands in the Rouge Valley.
1.4 TC & 300mm f4 afs. tripod used like a monopod.

Thanks very much Nicole,
I think the key to the success of this one is in the very fortunate natural light that I had.

Hi Marcio,
We had a shortage of frogs in the area for a few years now. But, they seem to be making a good comeback this year.
I also remember a lot more of them when I was a kid. But maybe it was because we were looking for them then.

I see no more frogs here in Brazil too.
It was very common in my childhood to see them through the streets with some frequency.
Wonderful shot Andre !! well done.

Hi Ray,
I also love my 18-200mm afs vr for exactly the same reasons you mention. Unfortunately Nikon seems to know exactly where to cut those mm off so that you always seem to need that little bit extra for wildlife situations.
It always amazes me when you see those pros at sporting events with 3 or 4 bodies and lenses slung around their necks. They are HEAVY after a while.

Although the quality isn't as high as a good prime lens I abandoned all my primes and now go around with the Canon 28-300L at all times. It's a 3.5-5.6 varied aperture and at any focal length gets down to just under a foot away from the subject. I just got fed up with having the wrong lens mounted for sudden one-off shots. It's very heavy and I use my tripod for almost everything other than candids or shots that leave little chance for any preparation.
Ideally I would have 3 or 4 camera bodies with lenses permanently attached and a strong person to carry them all around for me . Take care my friend, all the very best......Ray

Thanks Allen,
Glad you like it!
I always like the look of the water tension in this kind of image.

Thanks Ray,
Sometimes the big lens is a bit of an inconvienience if you want to shoot something else other than things in the distance. But, lately, I've been going out with this kind of shot in mind. So, I'm still enjoying it. Actually the lens does focus as close up a 5 feet away. I haven't used it much that close. But judging from the image quality, I might be able to come up with some interesting close-ups. I'm looking forward to shooting some.

Hi Kes,
I was using the 1.4x TC-14EII with the 300mm F4 afs lens. I was using a tripod like a monopod and standing about 30 feet away from him. The image has about 1/4 cropped away. I'm finding my images can be nice and sharp as long as the lens is supported by the tripod and the light is good.
I'm happy with this set-up so far.

Thanks Matthew,
I'm still getting to know this lens, but I'm pleased with the results so far. I really can't tell any difference between the quality with the 1.4 tc or without.

Thanks for the comment and visit Doug,
I thought I'd practice a little on these big frogs because they are a little more cooperative than birds.
It would be interesting to see how these guys see us.

Great details and beautiful natural tones my dear Andre. This venture into wildlife photography is shaping up very well my friend. Good depth to the shot with 300mm and a converter at f8, well done to you. Keep them coming. My very best wishes to you as always.....Ray

Hi Andre, great frog shot! I'm curious as to how far away you were. Thanks for posting the shutter speed and aperture settings...

The dof seems shallow for the f/8 setting, so I am guessing you were close, but perhaps that teleconverter (tc?) changes the looks of things.

He sees with 8mm Fisheye Lenses and you were shooting with a bumped up 300mm ... What a great 'Team' effort between creature and human to have captured this 'together'! :))
