About This is a shot of the nave and rib-vault of the Duomo in Florence, looking toward the crossing and chancel. It doesn't need further explanation from the likes of me. Compared with the other great cathedrals of England and Europe, it's starkly plain. I think it owes its power to this simplicity. The Dome is another story and I am looking forward to that. I'm experimenting with selective de-saturation, as can be seen here. Please don't take it too earnestly - the RAW image is still there :)

Hi Anthony,

I just ran across this shot flipping through pictures. Very nice! I like the de-saturation leaving the windows and a few splashes of color here and there. Very neat effect. I hope you worked up the nerve to get some shots from inside the dome!

Thanks for sharing,
Richard

Correction, the post is Siena's Duomo not Firenze. Though I dare say I can dig up some footage of that magnificent cathedral :)

Thank you Steve, very much. I very much appreciate comments like yours which add an extra dimension. My desaturation attempt here was rushed, and I certainly wasn't expecting any award for it! The crude smudging on the figure at left irritates me - a lot! And i am sure that many others take the whole idea greatly amiss. I was anticipating that in my "About".

Kind of you to take time to visit and comment.

What can I say Malules, except thanks. I have been enjoying your series of abstracts in Prague, and my sincerest congratulations on your BIP for: http://www.usefilm.com/Image.asp?ID=1531335.

I DO your # 17 in that series: http://www.usefilm.com/image/1531337.html

Yours ever,

Anthony

Armando, your comment made me laugh out loud - I love your humour - and exaggeration! In fact, I should very much love to see your work on Florence. I'm about to look at some i took of the Dome of the Duomo because it absolutely fascinates me, both for its art, and the sheer genius of its construction.

Kind regards and thank you for your words.

Anthony

What I like about the desaturation here is that the undesaturated people present the effect of additional stained glass on the floor. The new mimicking the old. Congratulations on your award.

Congratulations, your recent output has been excellent. That two/three year hiatus you took from this site seems to have energized you!
Great picture and well deserved award.

Warmest thanks indeed Rashed! It's a real pleasure to receive praise from someone like you, whose art and technique I have much to learn from, and which I greatly admire.

Are you still busy in Thailand?

Regards as ever,

Anthony

Anthony,
I do love my medium format camera, mainly for printing larger prints and capturing detail. I credit the use of film for the appearance of the images that I create. Friendly competition with my brothers also helps alot.
Thank you very much for your kind compliment. You have some outstanding work in your portfolio as well.

Congratulations again.......

Mike

Many thanks Mike. I see you are a professional photographer (at least I think I am correct).

I am intrigued, because I have just been looking at your portfolio, in particular this quite astonishing image of yours: http://www.usefilm.com/image/1502032.html. Simple technical question (for your art speaks for itself here): do you attribute the stunning quality of your photograph to the medium format you used? Even as a web image, circumscribed by this medium, it stands out brightly, and persuasively.

Regards, and thanks again for your interest,

Anthony
