I agree with William here.

Mostly for the selective focus shot try and keep the foreground in focus and throw the bg out of focus. In some cases where your subject is at back and needed selective focus and then use the out of focus fg as a framing device.

However, I like the colors here kinda abstart of chemical molecules or some like that.

Interesting idea. You might want to crop the image so that all the beads are in focus, the shallow depth of field detracts from the scene personally.
