About
During the 40's &50's in Eureka, a large portion of wet lands was drained, diked and used for various industry. The wet lands area is where fresh water and sea water came together and formed an area where a large diversity of plant and animal habitation existed. Some of the area was in water continuously and some was in water at high tide in the bay. Since the 1960's, there has been an effort to reclaim these wet lands and return them to their original state. This has been done successfully on 157 acres. There continues to be an effort to expand this reclamation to cover the original wet lands area.
