Outdoors present a problem in floral photography! However, the stacking software will align images - so some motion would be tolerated. How much? I will have to experiment and see about that.

I shall watch with interest to see how this develops, Eb. Of course, with images of flowers taken outdoors, the slightest breeze will . . . well, it's an axiom.

Graham, this is not a good sample with the stamens over-exposed. I think I "worked" it too much. After experimentation with better software and optimal number of images I will now get better results.

Nah, Eb. I just shoot one shot images :)
Looks good, though, even though somewhat waxy from the multiple image registration 'errors', i.e. never 100% accurate.

Hi Steve! That is a generous comment! I am an amateur. Photography is one of a number of retirement hobbies. I belong to a photo club and exhibit, compete and win occasionally. But selling - well, that happens rarely! What are you interested in and what do you wish to do with the images?

After viewing your photos I want to say that if you are not a professional photographer you shoild be. Do you sell prints of your photos? If so there are a few I would be intersted in.

Thanks, Dan! That's helpful. After your first comment, I tried Helicon and it did a very poor job at its default settings. As you say, the nature of the stack has a lot to do with it. I can't afford to purchase both, so I may go for Zerene to augment what I can do in CS4. This is new to me and challenging. I also read someone's account of using stacks from hand-held macro shots. That is exciting because it does raise the possibility of getting live and mobile specimens.

Sorry forgot to add, Zerene would work better for this shot than Helicon Focus because of your depth of focus stacks

Yes I had tried Zerene, also very good, Zerene is easier to use, and works better with deep stacks. Helicon works better with more stacks of less depth. I use them both depending on the shot I am trying to stack. They both have lots of limitations depending on the shot, and quite frankly on a number of occasions I have fully manually stacked the shots in photoshop layers.

Hi Dan, and thanks for commenting! Do you own Helicon? I'm a little reluctant because it is quite expensive for an unlimited license. I also wonder if you have tried Zerene Stacker to compare?

Fantastic Eb, great details and stunning depth created by the image stacking. Helicon focus is much better and easier than PS, in my opinion probably the best.

Here is a sample using Zerene Stacker. Reputedly, its output is among the best. I see that it is an improvement over CS4 in some respects. It seems that the program automatically crops the non-overlapping areas, so the crop is tighter. In any case there is also a learning curve in exposing the stack. Likely, I did not take enough exposures.

Well done macro, Eb! I've never tried these techniques, but they seem to work very well. Dave.
