Comment: Let a history teacher enlighten you.... Early on, in photography, the glass plate negative and even the eary film, was v-eee--rrr---yyy Ssssssllllooooowwwwww to take an image. A person had to sit VERY still for (sometimes a full minute or two) a long time. A smile would look really strange if the person had to hold it for a long time. So a plain, natural face was mandatory... because of the equipment. As the equipment got better, people would smile and look natural..... and then, at THAT moment, the forced smile entered the photographic world. At first it was the equipment... then it was false. Lesson over.

Yes, Ania.
And good news: the new requirement for photographs on official documents in Holland nowadays is:
NO SMILE !

Manon Siamak,
Usually I see many viewers have visited the page but it is nice to know that the "about" is read and understood by the UF community. It is good to know that it will make a "small" difference in photography .......

It was always my huge problem to smile just and only for photo, then I look weird so I stopped doing it :p We do look better while being natural, I do agree ;)
