About ... in Warsaw :)

This is one of two snow leopard (or - irbis) kittens (today was their birthday, they finished 4 months, with 9 and 10 kilos weight!). They were born in Warsaw Zoo but their mother didn't want them for some reason. They were raised by Zoo staff then and during one month they had daily walks at the Zoo. Today it was their last walk it seems so I caught the really last occasion to take them some shots close (which was really hard cos they are true definition of energy)!

Yes, I've seen "The Cove", although haven't watched "Whale Wars" yet...
Dolphins are the most intelligent animals, they are friendly and they saved human lives many times; I watched once a document when a group of dolphins saved unknown to them people from shark attack... I can't understand how anyone can do such harm to them...

I was writing to "wild cats" section of Polish magazine about cats for some years and read even too much about fate of many wild cats as well...

Thanks and keep on taking great shots :)

I really agree with you. And I do not mind of you are talking...
Did you watch "The Cove"? I am really amazed how people can be so cruel. Killing such friendly animals as dolphins. And whales in "Whale Wars".
You know the funny thing?
Taiji (the town in "The Cove") is hit & damaged by the Japan Tsunami this year & the whale meat processing ship used as a relief ship...
Hope to see more of your photos & its really great to talk to you.
Regards

Hi Sudeera,

Thank you for your wise comment so much!

It's really hard subject, zoological gardens. The good point for sure is that they are becoming more animal-friendly than being just a show for people.

I absolutely agree that the most important thing is to protect animals in their natural environment. Although unfortunately there are too many stupid people in this world - while some are trying to protect, others are killing... The good point for zoos is that they are trying to educate, by showing these animals. Our zoo shows plenty of information about the species, and such walks of snow leopard cubs are also to show people how they are beautiful... and that their coat is beautiful only on their true and right "owners". Maybe it will open eyes of some people more widely.

I was there yesterday and saw one Asian turtle. It did a long way to Warsaw from Hong Kong where it was saved from.. being eaten, as they are still just a dish there despite being really rare!
I saw in Plzen zoo the subspecies of lion which was extinct in the wild and is saved only in some zoological gardens.

What I think is that you are right that animals should live where is their true environment, where they are free... but in such situation, when so many animals are dying despite protection laws, zoos also make something good in saving them and educating at least some percent of people..

Sorry, I'm talking too much :p

BTW, I really envy you that you can take shots of all those amazing lizards in wild!

My best wishes,
Ania

Hi Ania,
Wonderful capture & thanks for sharing this.

Its great you can see a snow leopard even in a zoo, coz they are that much rare. Only after 2000 they were captured in a video. And very few survive in the wild in Pakistan & Afghanistan border.
I am totally against the concept of zoo. Animals are not exhibits. They should have their own lives. Our responsibility is to protect them in their natural habitats.
In Sri Lanka there is an institute that rehabilitate the lost baby elephants & release them in to the wild once they are old enough. I think that is what should happen. Not keeping them chained or caged.
regards

Pozdrawiam,
Ania
