David thanks for your comments and nice words. Infact the picture was shot in available window light. To answer to your question how the pupil could be that big or dark! I think his bifocal spectacle is doing the work! Or is it a defect in his eyes for his age!!. Have a nice day. A V Bhaskar-India

brilliant portrait! Not only is it a very interesting character but you really got the best out of the face with light and tonal adjustments.

One question though. The pupils look extremely large. Did you use a flash in complete darkness to get the pupils that large?

The subject of this shot has real character. I suggest that next time you shoot something like this you use a reflector to bounce back a little light to the shadowed sid of the face, that way you will still get the shadow definition but will reduce the ev gap between light and shadow and be able to pick up more face detail from your subject

Hi Amitava Banerjea, Nothing was done to sharpen the picture. It is the same picture as the colour, excepting the conversion to sepia tone. You can convert the picture to sepia tone using Hue/saturation in Ps to acheive this result.

Works much better than the colored version. Eyes got much sharper too? How?
What settings do you use for sepia toning in PS?
