Carl, you have a wonderful idea here, with much potential in B/W. I almost shiver just looking at it! I think two things might have helped: Cropping off the bottom (start the picture with the dark blue) and taking the picture from a slightly higher angle, so all the curves of the frozen plants are in strong contrast to the dark water, and there isn't as much "busyness" to distract the eye on the top. The little bit of color is great. =)
