About A true wonder, the castle of Óbidos completely is restored being thus one of the most beautiful castles in use. It seats on modest cliff to the side of extensive areal that still has little more than two centuries waters of the sea covered, Óbidos can be proud of its interesting castle. Forming squared, with one thirty meters of side, the casteleira wall, strengthened of cylindrical torreões in the faces northern and austral, as well as in the vertices of the northwest and southwest, and quadrangular towers in north-east and the South-East one, surrounds a place of fetichism in which if it raised paço of alcaide, whose ruins gave to new life the generality workmanship I restore undertaken has few years for the General Direcção of the Buildings and National Monuments. A robust tower, adossada the Face occidental person of the wall, integrates if in the casteleiro set. The eastern face of the wall constitutes, for thus saying, the nuclear part of that involves castle and village, and that, drawing out for one and another side in south direcção, it goes to close in tip, covered about way quilometro, in the call Tower it Torch, afectando thus, very approximately, the configuration of a estirado isosceles triangle. In its set, the current castle of Óbidos exactly represents the final phase of a constructive series that is possible to follow, for times documentary. That this mount local was inhabited already in prehistoric times, induces to believe it, not only the natural conditions of the place, but also the meeting of some alimentary vestiges, even so ténues, and over all the circumstance indubitavelmente to have had inhabitants, in these remote ages, the there neighboring hills, the Outeiro of Assenta, the Outeiro de Santo Antão and others. As sea port, Óbidos must have called the attention the some peoples whose domain successively exerted itself in ocidente of the Peninsula; in the continuation of these successes, the Romans certainly, and with certainty the Muslim invaders, had strenghtened it. Same Lack who does not see in certain still existing parcels a Moorish feição. Of remaining portion, it can be intuir resistance that if believes to have ai joined the troop of D. Afonso Enriques, when in 1148, after the conquest of Santarém and Lisbon, our first King was launched in the task to possess of all the neighboring region. The constructive progressos subsequentes of these blockhouses had folloied in some way the successes of local history.

I must admit I have never been to Óbidos. But there are so many images here from that place. Now I understand why. A very good presentation of the castle. A fine photo.

Impressive castle and surely very nice main tent that looks like very old! From years of 'Dark Ages'! At the old castle I like a lot that towers at the main wall. This architecture style isn't common at other castles. Very nice Mario! Regards ,JH.

A foto está excelente e muito interessante. Mas o xará devia incluir explicações à respeito. Aquele castelinho, por exemplo, com suas torres de diametro mínimo parece falso ou obra recente, enquanto que as barracas parecem de circo.E não temos sequer um título!
