The trick with worms is just plain patience, if you get in close and they hide then just wait, they will get used to the feel of the framer, or in this case the lens port and will emerge slowly, usually you will only get one or two shots before they go for good. Ideally it is better to picture the sot in your minds eye before comitting to the wait. I got lucky especially as it is a new "toy" to learn to use.

Aren't these worms very very shy? They shoot back at the slightest quiver. Very well shot! Great job. You are doing a great job, even with your "moderate" equipment, as you put it... ;-)
