Hi Lynn
A comment coming from such an experienced photographer/artist as you are is extra flattering. Thank you! You also have an impressive portfolio and looking at your work is enjoyable and inspiring. Thanks for sharing it with us. Feel free to check on more of my work at www.http://www.altphotos.com/Gallery.aspx?&a=MemberGallery&memberid=2152
I'd really appreciate to hear your opinion. Through that site you can also contact me if you like. I'd be pleased to get in contact with you but I don't know how.
My best regards

Dear Emgy,
Thanks for stopping by, I?m always happy if someone likes my photographs ;)
I must say we share the same interest in abstracting simple things.
Love your old paint pictures, did take a lot myself in the analog age.
But this one stands out for me, it?s really GREAT.
Think you should buy a better camera, of course it?s all about the one behind it, but still.
By the way, you get quite some comments, must be popular ;)))

fun to guess.) It's very beautiful; it shimmers.

Thanks for comments everyone
You're so awfully kind!
LOVE YOU ALL!!!

Earlier today, there seems to have been some confusion about the POTD.
First they submitted my "Simply Red", then this one here, "Material World".
I guess none of the two was found good enough to be POTD a whole day.
Oh well.....I can't complain. It was strange to see it happen, and fun too!
I didn't even notice the change, until my friend Harland Heald asked what was going on.
All I knew then was that I was receiving congratulation messages for my Simplly Red and , all of the sudden they stopped and I began to get messages congratulating me on my "Material World" as POTD, which really puzzled me.
Again...Thanks everyone for taking the time to react to my photos.

Emgy - I don't understand what's going on. Earlier this morning, your Simply Red was posted as Photo of the Day. Now, this image has been posed as Photo of the Day. Both are excellent, so I shouldn't be confused. This was your first abstract that really "knocked me out." I return to view it often. Congratulations!!! - Harlan

You know you are very good at abstract? This shot is something of very good.I?m an usual visitor of the excellent Modern Art Museum , of Porto ,where abstract is a great part of the expositions.I am ,also, a yearly visitor of Paris, and Centre Pompidou is in my schedule. This is not to tell you I am a visitor of Modern Art, but to say I am not away of this form of Art and you should take my opinion as a based one and not only as kind compliment.
Thanks for you comments to my pictures.

  0

Ian Crean   {K:14866} 12/2/2003
Emgy, you do have some compression isues here. Otherwise, I hardly see how this image could be improved with another (better?) camera.
The camera did not have the eye or instinct to see the opportunity, the camera did not produce the effect or present the image as you did. Your creativity would shine through no matter what tool you use to record the material for your palette.
Still, a new camera is always nice, eh!

thanks for your lovely words on my photo.:) This is my oldest daughter and she just loves dressing up still at age 23! I think where she was balancing is only 4 or 5 inches across...sorry not sure of the metric! Both the girls are Matrix fans.:)

querida emgy, again you show how little the camera has to do with the quality of your pictures! an outstanding idea almost perfectly captured (ok, ok, there are technical limits here! doesn't matter, really!)
thank you so much for your wonderful and many comments on 'obscure painting - up', 'up or out', 'elevated position'

Emgy,

An odd and compelling image. I find that the scratches and movement of the scratches remind me of grass but then find they are trapped on the plane of hte blade.

I am convinced that working with sub-standard camera's really pushes creativity and our ability to see...this is excellent.

Mary

Thank you all for your incouraging comments my friends.
Working with my old and simple camera is most of the time frustrating but I'm trying to manage and make it a challenge while I am still (and endlessly) waiting for my new one, which I ordered ages ago.
Harlan,
you are partly right, I was thinking when I took this shot, but not in the sense that I knew what the end result would be. I happened to see some scretches on the blade and I thought that with some artificial light, they could be interesting for a photo. I took a few shots in macro mode and I cropped one so that it could make a nice image.
I've always thought that beauty is everywhere around us, even in the little and insignificant things. I don't think I am wrong

groetjes, Louise

Very nice. The dawn behind the blade makes the image. Check your compression settings for your jpegs.

una foto aprticolarmente interessante. Bello il gioco di luce sopra la lama, e l'intrecciarsi dei graffi su di essa... Ottima anche la composizione.
