Another great shot.
Intersting comments from Mary Bell. How are your photo paint skills David?
I'd love to see what she means.

David,

I like this. The medium greys in the background work well for me. His expression and pose capture me as well. I particularly like the catchlight in his eyes which suggests to me that the print has a great deal of detail in that area.

This is a very personal opinion and you must realize that I like to extremes. But you have nearly a perfect rim of light around the edge of the hat/pan and I am very taken by the negative space of darkness around his face. I would like to see the interior of the circle completely black (while maintaining the rim of light) to offset the mostly grey tones of the photo and to create a tension or negative charge.

Then a little more light on his face would be required...but - it would be effective imo.

Mary

Great capture! I would love to try my hand at candid people photography but am a bit timid and concerned about people's reaction to being photographed without my asking them first (thus losing spontaneity). Happy New Year!

his mild eyes and bitter expression led me to tears!... quite sensitive Mr. Malcolmson, as usually. Happy New Year!
