Marcy, this is so great! I saw the original image and your result and I think you have done so well to bring this scene to life...
I believe that when we picture something in our minds we also lay our emotions about it over top...so a simple capture often isn't enough to measure up to that...it takes more to make the scene 'better' than reality...to make it as our mind's eye sees it...

Beautiful image filled with longing for the land and fresh air. The speckling looks just a little overdone, vertically, top left,(I keep looking there instead of where I want to look) but it's an interesting technique for sure.
