I think you've done a very good job indeed. I am particularly impressed by the way you have added the fine hairs that got deleted - you've certainly done a better job than I did!!

Here you go i used Photoshop CS.
Cloned out the bar.
Added in the fine hairs that got deleted with the clone tool also.

No idea bout photoshop, as am not a user of it! BUt I agree, get rid of that white bar, and this is a winning shot.
But, the secret to great animal portraits is to capture their mood - which you have done wonderfully here! He has such a fantastic expression on his face, as if he's about to ask a very pertinent question! I absolutely love it!
