Hugo (de Wolf), I am very reluctant to clone out things, because I regard capturing what was actually there, "warts and all" as the very essence of photography. Your picture looks better than my version but it isn't what I saw and captured. I may change this attitude over time--and it's not an absolute rule with me even now--but cloning is certainly the last thing, not the first thing, I think of. At least you can see it is consistent with the rather journalistic style I have adopted...

Hi Roger, That's what makes UF so meaningful, scenes, that might appear stereotypical to you will open up an entirely new world to many others. It not only provides a window to the world, but also offers the opportunity to learn in the process....
Likewise, my comment, I like the japanese scenery. Completely different than the Dutch landscapes, which Teunis frequently masters in. I like the composition, framed on the left side and opening up to the right. The only thing that I find a bit distracting is the heavy silhouette of the tree in the top left corner. It clashes a bit with the rest of the scene. I think cloning it out (see attached) balances the compostition a bit more. Just to give an impression on what I mean, I also removed part of the tree in the back....

Hugo, I always appreciate your encouraging comments, but I would much rather find new photographs from you in your portfolio! Then I could return the compliment and enjoy a feast for my eyes at the same time. Please keep posting!

Nothing to be surprised about, when an image conforms to the expected or provides a fresh insite into something well known, then it pleases the eye. These work for us with western eyes because they are so typical. That doesn't mean they are 'ordinary', they are very well executed / presented.
My only critisism for this particular image is that I would have liked to have been able to see more of the clean lines of the roof over the door. The tree tends to disrupt the view.
