Great idea and lovely colour. This could make a vey nice abstract, but I'm not sure about the composition and DOF. I'd try to re-shoot. I think you should either focus on the stem bit, or more to the edge of the onion on the right. At the moment, the focus seems a bit random to me, and the lack of definition in the interesting (stem) bit of the onion makes for a bit of a smudgy image. I'd also make sure there's no gap in the upper left-hand corner, as it is quite distracting. Why not try and experiment with the lighting? At the moment you have a grey smudge on the right-hand side of the onion, which, to me, spoils its otherwise lovely tone. This is a beautiful object that can definitely be turned into an intriguing subject! Finally, once you have the photo, I'd try and think about something other than "Red Onion" for a title. Why give it away instantly, when your interesting picture could actually make people think about what they see? As it is, they might just go "Ah, yes. Red onion. Let's see the next one." I reckon even having just the word "Red" as your title would make the viewer stop and take a closer look. What do you think? Best wishes, Paula
