About The effect of the early moring light shining in the dimly lit vaults of the Mosque in the middle of the Bazaar in Shiraz was a sight I could not resist. I'll post another version of this photo where a local guide shows us in. Maybe that one fits better in this triptych, but I consider it of a lesser quality. Your comments, as always, are very much appreciated!

As to the theme of this triptych, the mingling of natural with artificial light, the cool tones in contrast with the warm tones is the theme of this triptych.

Cheers,

Hugo

Nice composition looking down the row of arches with just enough visible to the left to give a broader idea of the space. I also like the difference in the light as you move down the arches which goes from cool to warm. Nicely done.

Hugo - Great Shot - If this was in digital I would be inclined to clone out teh electric wires. It is such a beautiful shot to have modern wires hanging - good work

A fantastic fugue of arches and a soffused, yet colorful light. A real marvel! Antonella

Hi Paulo, Thanks for the suggestion. I considered that, but I kind of like the shadows in this shot, in the triptych, that's a repeating element, the transition between the cool natural light and the warm artificial light. Maybe I should've burned the foreground a bit more, though.

Cheers,

Hugo

A great atmosphere with a magic light, the colors and the forms really great.
What about a tigher crop, more enphasis on the roof?

I like the shot because it is completely off-centered but it doesn't feel that way at all. The hallway draws the eye to the right side very easily...

Hugo,

I agree; you made the right choice. The photo without the 'local' is indeed the better one.

Jeroen

Hallo Jeroen, ik heb eindelijk het alternatief met "de Local" kunnen toevoegen... Ben benieuwd of je het met de keuze om hem weg te laten eens bent.

Groeten,

Hugo

To all:

Thanks for all your comments, I really appreciate them. As I experienced some problems uploading the alternative yesterday, I'll post it today. I consider this shot of a lesser quality, but I think it does carry the same atmosphere.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hugo,

there are two parts of the photo which I really love, on one hand the soft texture of the columns and there the different colours from the front to the back.

On the other hand, the arches in the back.

I know without the blue tiles in the middle arche I wouldn't see the related column in blue,
but IMHO all arches without tiles would be my favourite.

Cheers,
Verena

Hi Jeroen, Thanks for your comment. I tried to upload a photo with a local in it (I did have that choice!) but it didn't work; as soon as that but has been fixed, I'll let you know....

I opted for this version, because I think the man in the composition distracts from the scerene atmosphere and the colour in it.

I considered the crop you suggest too, but although I do believe it would minimalise the overexposed part, I think it would make the columns on the right too flimsy, thus unbalancing the scene... I'll get back to you on this....

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo,

this is very good photo!

I love the composition and colours.
One or two thing that could improve this one:
- maybe you could crop the image at the right hand side (just a slice, so that it doesn't start with that overexposed area/side of the wall)
And what would absolutely top it of is a local person, but I guess you didn't have that choice when you shot this one.

Regards,

Jeroen

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 4/13/2004
Hi Saeed, Thanks for the indepht analysis. You are right, there's a slight tilt in the image. I think it's due to the Nikor 28-105 mm distortion at focal lenghts smaller than 48 degrees. I have corrected the pinch and the tilt in a previous version, but it unbalances the image even more, so I decided to go for this one. I also agree with you on the B&W one. I could not upload it yesterday, but if that bug has been corrected, I will. It creates a different atmosphere, and introduces a timeless effect, but I like the colour version better....

Thanks,

Hugo

Arches are the best and the rich elements for the architecture photo images,`cos they give the perspective and the long vision orientation, I used this one yesterday for study purpose and been assembled to see the overlapping elements and the increase depth perspective, the effect of light and shadow as well, and good example for close to the camera and far out of it ,and the result, from the reassembling we find a small "tilt" or an balance angle "up right -low left? the decoration so sharp and perfect details, the bright gave a "suffer" to the lovely floor details, regarding B&W I think the best is colour one ,not because of the image ,but you will lose the wonderful "mosaic" colours,to show the lovely columns "left" the main close arch suffer little bit of it?s left side, conclusions, outstanding historical image, cheers,Saeed
(Ps.am still looking to the others)

oh Hugo..
another oustanding shot! big the perspective, the colors, the way of the architecture orients them that for my fortune I have seen in the "palace" of Seville. the composition is perfect only the columns is little vertical (or is my eyes?!?!).. the beautiful one is that they carry to the center indeed they make to magically escape the look towards right. excellent the exposure.. without tripod!! the colors and the use that you make of the fuji are BIG!
my congrats
cheers
