Dave said it best. People tend to think about the homeless being people only, but there are literally thousands of homeless animals out there. Very nice thought provoking work here.
Very keen shot, I like the division between colors and the subject of the picture right at the dividning point. The only one criticism I would have is the angle of the photo. If the camera had been tilted just enough to make the division straight across instead of at an angle, it may look just a tad better. But you may not have been shooting straight on to the subject, hence the tilt.
You might also eliminate this tilt in rotating the picture a few degrees.
I like the thought behind this photo as well. Most people think of homeless people, not the millions of homeless animals. That thought, to me, combined with the background and the pose of the dog really make this picture superb in my book.
