the rock formation to the foreground is good and colourful. You've also got great nice depth of field which really makes it look as though you were on a high (as J. Wiggins said). My only real criticism is that the horizon in the distance is not level as that sloping line kinda dragged my eye a bit to the top right corner of the image.
A blue sky would have been good too but I'm not a tyrant I realise that you can't rely on the weather!!!
Interesting shot, Karl. I have taken several shots like this on my hiking adventures in Phoenix, Arizona, and Lancaster, California. The desert terrain looks very familiar. Nice color and focus on the foreground rocks. They are a great contrast to the flatness of the desert floor. Well one!
