Hello David,

I can't believe only one comment on this beautiful photo. The composition is exquisite - the bottom half is sort of a "Z" shape of Jerusalem stone with the boy contained within it. The upper half is another layer - the overview of the Old City. Your image, along with Hugo's small correction, is wonderful. Ya'sher Koach!

Best regards,
SteveR

Thanks Hugo
I agree with the cropping and the rotation and thank you for your comments. I will try to fix it up and straighten it out this weekend.

Hi David, I've been waiting for this one since you attached it to your comment on my photo. It gave me plenty of time to think about a comment. First of all, I'm glad you didn't frame it....;o)

One of the first things I noticed was the apparent tilt of the photo. Only a minor thing, easy to correct, but nonetheless very distructing to any photo, IMHO.

I really like the strong atmosphere in this photo, on one hand it is a peaseful mood, very tranquil and calming. the boy looking over his city, hot and suffocating by exhaust fumes, but beautiful from a higher altitude. As if he stands above all frantic movements below him.

On the other hand, there's an uneasyness about the brustling atmosphere over the photo, mainly created by the haze over the city. Not quite looking down, but on a even level with the houses on the opposite hill.

I think the tension in this shot is created by what is NOT included in the photo. Maybe the tilt even acts as a hint to peripheral, uncaptured events. Not only in time, but also in subjects. There's something disturbing about that atmosphere.

The lighting is superb, and so is the composition. Very well balanced. I attached an image with a slightly different crop, and I removed the tilt in the image. I wonder what you think of it. I think it does this photo justice, as it is a fascinating photo. Very well exposed, and a very good reportive image.... Only the Tilt keeps it from a definate 7...

Hope this is the profound comment you were looking for...;o)

Cheers,

Hugo
