Dear Felipe
Wouldn't it have been fun if we could shoot it together? I think it must be great to have somebody else's input and ideas on what angles, etc.

Robert (my hubby) is no good with florals :-)) He would shoot everything straight from the front, whereas I like to play around with the angles.

Keep well my friend.

Hi Linn, I like this picture a lot. Charming the contrast between the coloring and diffuse bottom and the detailed first plane. Very good composition and very beautiful color. Very good work. Congratulations!

My best, Felipe.

Linn, I like this very much just the way it is! I love the repitition in the two flowers and especially the way the twisted petals seem to be speaking with each other.... Strong image on it's own.

To Mark regarding compositon... In general I agree... however I do believe we need to be taught essential elements of strong composition and then break them on occasion when appropriate. I'm all for creating a "new look" and your "own style" but I'm still a believer that there are certain graphical elements that work better than others.

Morning Chris

Thanks :-) I feel a bit lousy because Robert has spent quite a bit of money (too much actually!) on getting me some close-up lenses - but they don't seem to be compatable with the Z1 :-(( It stinks because it is such a waste of money :-((

Also please read my reply comment that I have just made to Mark Beltran.

Hi Mark

I agree - a square image would have been better. Robert (the hubby) always complains that I want to go in too tight on an image. He says that I should trust the Z1 more, as it will give me the same quality if I stand back a little bit. I guess a lot of this also has to do with my bad eyesight - I want to be right on top of an object so that I can see it better.

Regarding my style ... again you're right. I can now see how my images tend to move into a specific style. Is it so very wrong? If I may, I can use Theunis Haveman and Chris Spracklen as examples ... I can spot their images a mile away (that is, when Chris doesn't surprise us!). So what if we each carved out our own little niche? I feel comfortable with my images, and I am sure they do too. One can never please everyone all the time :-)

I used to think that an image should contain the entire object - for instance a flower. That every petal should be in the frame. Now that I have seen how artistic freedom is applied, I am having fun with my images.

One "problem" I must still overcome is my tendency to want to see "the real thing". I know that software programmes can greatly enhance a run-of-the-mill image. I used to think of it as "cheating" I have a lot of images that I know will benefit greatly by a bit of software "help" :-) and hopefully I will let my inhibitions go as and when I become more experienced with my programme.

Sorry for the long ramble ... :-))

Spectacular detail on this macro, Linn.
That Minolta certainly knows what it's doing close-up ~ and you sure know how to get the best out of it!
Nice work!
Kind regards, Chris

Dear Linn, this is a fantastic flower composition. I like this special angle with your selected DOF. Regarding cropping and shifting - I don't tried it but I think I would prefer this one.

Regards, Gerry

Hello Linn; First of all, thank you for your kind comments in bred to race! And thank you for allowing me to critique in an honest, constructive way. There are instances where a comment is all that's necessary, and then there are times when a critique is asked for & appropriate. I'm not always right, or in a good mood, but God help me to behave! LOLOL. This photograph spells out your style, which is uniquely you. So don't go out ruining it by taking a photography class on how to compose. My photography teacher refused to teach us how to compose, because he said it would produce robots and plagiarism. I thank that man over and over. This photograph also has an informal sort of way about it, and that's good. I like how you kept the DOF shallow so that the background is nice and soft. I would have added a bit more foreground; perhaps enough to produce a square format picture. I love the lines, the texture, and that glorious yellow.
