Excellent animal/nature portrait. The appearance is tht they were posing for you. Perfect exposure with DOF management enhances the photo.
Well done..

OK Darrin, not your best shot, but an excellent example of what the camera will do; which is the purpose, I assume. So you sold me, now all I need is the money.

Excellent photo. Love the BG colour too. Yeah, I also thought it would be good if you could have had the other one's face in there too but far out, that would be a real pain to have to do, depending on the terrain, etc. Well done anyway. I would be proud of this one, that's for sure.

Hi Darrin, without doubt a very good shot. Amasing quality at an 800mm zoom...
I find this shot very intriguing. In one way, it's a fantastic capture, including, obviously, the technical aspects of this shot but that goes without saying. The moment is there, the composition is bloody perfect, and it evokes questions, which is always a good thing.
On the other hand, I'm curious to find out why you composed this shot the way it is, with the front deer blocking the head of the rear one. With an 800mm zoom, I think it would've taken quite a few steps to the left to "separate" those heads, and I don't know that was an option. Still, I guess that's what's bothering me (to put it strongly)
Hope you see what I mean. It's not a matter of critisism, just an observation, and, as I always do (luckily only when I'm commenting on UF), thinking out loud.
Cheers,
Hugo
PS: The tiny white line is missing on the top and left edge.

Great to love using one's equipment! I agree completely - slides are still wonderful at times, and there's no reason why film or digital should be abandoned in favour of the other. Looking forward to some more MK II shots :). I've recently purchased the Nikon D70, and while it doesn't use my old PK mount lenses, I'm having a total ball with it as well.

Hi Megan,
Thanks again for the comments. I absolutely love digital, used a couple of cameras that I wasn't overly impressed with but the MKII is just fantastic. I will, however, always use slide when I travel I feel.

Darrin, this is really well done! Also, you've reminded me to get down there to see the antlers growing.
Seems I've missed your move over to digital - how are you finding it?
