Couple of comments and a question. First, I think this is a great photograph. No question. Can you tell me if the left tree (next to Church or School on left side) was dodged? If so, I am thinking the dodge might be one zone too many, if that is a way to express that. I get the impression it is over-pulling the exposure in that one spot. As a matter of cropping, I think this crop is a good one, but I also see the right side clipped in a tad to make an equally excellent crop.

Again, good work.

Steve

I added this photo to editors choice for one reason, it has mood. There is so much going on from the white house to the turbulent sky that it combines together wonderfully. Well done Marty.

What?
That's an image...

Martin Mora Martin Mora   {K:4666} 8/15/2001
what I did when converting this from color to Bl&wh in photoshop was change the mode to greyscale, then I tweaked the sky abit with saturation, I wanted to bring out, the difference between that dark forboding sky, and the white sunlit church, kinda a safehaven type idea, thus the name, Sanctuary. another prob though is my sent up version gains darkness and contrast, from what Im seeing in photoshop, so I try to lighten and flatten it, then email myself an image, so I get a better idea of what its going to look like posted, so this image is abit darker and contrastier than intended, something Im trying to finetune..

I much prefer the colour version of this great photo.I find all that darkness rather oppressive ,the solitary tree to the right gets almost all swallowed up and the delicate line of red flowers (poppies ?) disappears completely.Which version do you prefer Marty ?

Sylvia Jones   {K:652} 8/15/2001
This caught my eye as I was scanning through the thumbnails so I had to go and look at the colour version - Both great shots but the b & w wins for me because of the mood. Glad you put it up for us to see.
