I've learned to appreciate the ring-flash. The trick is not to hold it too close to your subject, as it is very strong.
By the way, this sort of photo (you've commented on number III) has been equated to something alien before, whereas it is a simple, commonplace plant that can, in certain circumstaces, even be eaten.

I forgot to tell you, dear MaLuisa, that the seeds you see in the photo, when they are still green, are edible.
During the seige on Jerusalem in the War of Independence (1948) thay were a major source of food. The leaves, when still green, can also be cooked and eaten.
When I was a child, my friends and I used to eat the seeds and enjoy them even when there was no shotage of other food.
