About This is my oldest Daughter, feeding the youngest baby,a Cicada.
I reshot this image with a bit more DOF than the first time.Compare this image with the one I shot last week (Focus on feeding time). Its amazing how much they have grown in one week. This is the same bird.I like this one much better.
This is getting close to the Last chapter in the story.
All the Baby Robins have flown away but this last little one. He will be going soon he is feeding himself now. This one actually flew about 50 feet today, He is flying like a champ. I will miss them I hope they return to visit me. It has been a very nice learning experience and I have really bonded with the Robins.

Great depth of field and compostion. I really like the various planes of focus. Few photographs work as vertical compositions;this one does. Excellent!

This whole saga is amazing. How wonderful of you and your family and friends to have taken over this mighty task all the while knowing you will have to let them go one day. The photos are truly beautiful, in colour and clarity, detail and texture. As a matter of fact all your photos in your portfolio are impressive and delightful with interesting and informative 'abouts'. Thanks for sharing and btw at least you can get rid of a few cicadas as shown in your pic :-) ..regards Christine

The DOF is truly better in this one... the robin is clearer, and so is your daughter's face. Maybe the lighting is better as well, and that's what's improving the shot? From what I understand, the robins will return to nest near the same place, so there's a good chance you'll see them again. But don't they all look alike? ;-)

Ellen Havrilla   {K:8618} 5/25/2004
It would be nice, when they come back next year, to build a nest, wouldn't it?
Great shot! Enough cicadas to feed the robins, I think?
Kind regards
Ellen

Super image. Very positive example of people/animals relationsip. Sure you will miss them, but probably guys will stay close to your backyard to save it from crickets and other bugs. This cicada will probably not lay eggs.....

Morning Dan
How sad to hear that the adventure is almost over; but how incredibly heart-warming that apart from the loss of momma, the babies survived, thrived and are now out of the nest.

I think it has been a great learning experience not only for your family and children, but the rest of the world too.

Like you, I do hope they will come back to visit your garden, and even nest in it.

Thank you once again for allowing me to share in this!

Regards
Linn

That story is too cool! I'm glad that I was able to see you work your magic firsthand (yes...in the presence of greatness). You did such an awesome job raising them, and a really big favor to all the UF'ers, for sharing it with them! My hats off to you, Lightner Man. ..Prue

Hi Dan,

I actually prefer this shot to the last one (Focus on feeding time). In my opinion you've perfected the DOF in this one, since the whole bird is now in focus. That's not to say the last one wasn't brilliant of course - it definitely deserved staff choice.

Where did your profile photo go? It was great with the two birds.
