First of all, thanks for the comments on my pics. Next thanks for posting this pic in the context you did. Next and last of all the negative commentors to this photo need to be reminded that the USA never wages war against any nation! We go to war when we have to. Then we leave after rebuilding only asking for someplace to bury our dead! I would venture to say the people who left the negative comments to your photo would not have had that opertunity had it not been for the good ole US of A. God bless all our military men and God bless you for thinking of them!

John
thanks for your comments. I recognized the ID tags and the P-38 can opener. In my early days, I seem to never to keep one around. Later on, I soldiered on with MRE's. No need for a can opener with the newer meals.
Job well done on this photo.

John, I came back to this after remembering something my middle son told me. Nathan is in the USAF. When he was first issued his tags he told me, "I wear one set around my neck and the other set on my boot...in case I get blowed up real good." I know that may seem morbid, but it is really indicative of the attitude the volunteers have. Nathan and the rest just know, just understand...there is nothing wrong wiff giving a bit back to this country. And a smile makes the possibility go down a bit easier. Jim

A very nice and well taken photo! Beautiful colours and interesting details and composition. I actually find the American flag really beautiful with it's colours. The swdish flag is blue with a yellow cross... Quite boring really, but still the flag of one's country does give a nice feeling. Or... I guess it depends on when and where it's seen.
It would not be nice seeing it as a symbol of killing or wars. I don't think soldiers are brave and I wish there wasn't wars... anywhere. But I guess that's something that will never happen.
Ehh... I feel mean now saying things like this under your photo, I mean I'm sure you don't like wars either and that this photo is more about that you feel proud of ones that are you close, or something like that.

Sorry to offend You Lennert. But if people are allowed to show photos of naked men and women or phots of starving people or basically whatever anyone wants to then I deffend My right to post this photo!I happen to feel the same for anyone who puts there lives on the line for the freedom of any country but I happen to be an American and this is My expression of Memorial Day!I would certainly not be offended if You were to post a photo of any holiday You believe in and I have a right to comment or not! My best to You Lennert! JOHN

very boring. maybe brave soldiers died for your freedom, but i thought we were going to talk about photos. Your never-ending American contest of showing who-is-the-best-patriot doesn't belong here. The colours are nice. God bless the world!

John,
As the son of a WWII and Korean War veteran and as a veteran myself, I very much appreciate the sentiment expressed in this picture. Very well done. Just as an aside, I wonder how many people realize that the thing on the dog tag chain is a can opener for opening C-rations?
