Very interesting. Great perspective. I love the unusual view point. Thanks for the comment in my image. By the way, I do agree, looks i lit bit ambiguous. Maybe if the name was stateline. I dont know.
Cheers.

I'm a little envious of this shot :), couse u have a idea that i would have for a tripthic that i would do in future about the "three colours trilogy" of K.K., u know those films?
This one goese to my fav.
For many reasons:
1)Composition at best levels.
2)Contrast between red of shoes and sits and blu of the denim really stunning.
3) really give the idea of motion
4) I like without conditions
Ciao Efisio

What a great feel. I would have sworn this was film. Although i normally favour the black and white image i think this is so much better in it's red tones.

Hi Hugo,
People said almost everything about this photo.
I just can say that this one "catched" my eye when I checked your portfolio (long time no see...).
For me, like you said, the unsual viewpoint makes the difference.
Very interesting composition.

Cheers,

Hugo, I love red as a colour and with this image you have captured it with vibrancy and life. I like your unusual perspective on life.

Keep it up!

Hugo, this is excellent. I'm not surprised the woman was nervous with a photographer crawling along the floor of the carriage ;-) Very creative and very effective.

Hugo very interesting here - I like that at these slower shutterspeeds the light reacts differently on subjects - adding a bit more on the patina - I am actually a bit amazed that the seat is in that much focus as you said the train was moving, but the light from that window was working in your favor on a bit of a freeze there. As well, I'm assuming your pick on this subject matter had something to do with the uncanny match of her shoe color with the seat - intriguing. Did you bracket any of these? What's most attractive to me is the patina of this image, the movement and the composition. Well done. Kind Regards, Cindi

this first shot of the tryptich, (I just come from second one, in Yellow) is better; may be due to the fact I love the red color which here is rendered in a so cool way; interest is added by the shoes of the woman possessing the same color of the train chairs; extremely interesting work Hugo, I like your tryptich choice

Hi Stefan, Thanks for your comment. As to your question, I did consider that crop, but decided against it, as I thought the reference to the surrounding would add to the atmosphere. Maybe that was not quite necessary. I retrieved the exposure information from the EXIF, it surprised me too... Had to recheck it, and now I see where I did go wrong....0,60 seconds.... My mistake...

Thanks,

Hugo

Stefan Engström   {K:24473} 6/2/2004
Did you consider a tighter crop from the top? It places the foot more in the center and may be the reason you did not, but for me it is maybe an improvment. 1/60 s sounds too fast for this amount of blur, but regardless, I think it is a great representation of the nervous tic you wanted to show. The blur in the rest of the image does not bother me much.

Mazl,

Hugo

Hi Thilo, thanks for your comment. I'm still not sure what the second and third photo of this triptych will be, following Christians comment. I hadn't noticed the tilt in the left, yet... Thanks for pointing it out to me... (I always thought I could spot even the slightest tilt from a mile away....;o)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi M (Tigrek) Thanks for your comment, as you know, I do appreciate it! Your comment on my photo intrigued me, as you refer to a "image, not photo"... This shot was, apart from being cropped and resized, taken straight out of a camera. I know digital images are not actual photos, but I'm not sure if that's what you were getting at. Would you please explain why you think this does not qualify as a Photo? Just curious!

Thanks,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 6/2/2004
Hi John, Thanks for your comment. A tripod, even if it would've been a really small one wouldn't have worked, as the train was moving, and the tremour inevitably caused some motion blur.

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 6/2/2004
Hi Christian, thanks for your suggestion, I like that title! I'm re-considering changing the other two shots of this triptych...;o) (and changing the title, too...)

Hi Tom, The 28mm was taken from the EXIF info, but I cropped the image, and I guess that's how I got this close. She didn't notice me, as I sat behind her across the aisle....

I'll take a look at your recent uploads, but I'm rather burried in work these days...

Cheers,

Hugo

From the emotional side, this is a strong composing, Hugo. I like the different levels of interest: The color theme, the moving theme (although you titled it "moving train", it's in fact a "moving woman"). technically, you did a lot of creative things: the grain & blur, the unsual angle, the nearly quadratic form. The only minor thing for me: the cropping on the lower left. And the slight shift in the vertical. anyway great project, hope to see more with the hint of the "version" ;-) cheers, thilo

The lady was very nervous, maybe she saw you with your Nikon ;) I like the movement of her foot, the red shoe has something sensual, it?s a pity that the remaining part of the photo is a bit too blurry for my taste, I don?t know if the camera was leant against the floor and the train was running too fast or it?s a handheld shot, anyway it?s really something new! Bye Max

Hi Hugo, i can imagine the woman was nervous with you and your zoom lens trying to look up her dress :) No seriously, i like this. Just the right amount of camera shake caused by the moving train (or maybe because you were excited) and contrasted by the movement of the womans legs. Good colours - i read somewhere that you have uploaded a new profile for the D100 - so it's looking good IMO. Nice experiment but not one that i would have had the nerve to do ;-)
Groeten - your friend, Neil

Very nice and creative work. I like the colors, the light and the composition too. (Was she nervouse because of you, maybe? ;-)).
Good work.

PS: thanks for your comment to my photo. Yes, I understand what you mean about the angle. I have another imagine with the same statue, from behind, where the angle is a bit better (I think so). Maybe I'll post it these days.
Thanks again, Alex

Hallo Hugo.
As a moment and subject surely this photo has to give a new way I think. The motional foot looks very nice and even the photo is little bit grainy at this motional part of it, this is something not bad. Perchaps need a tripod at low position of more standly shot.
Best regards!

Christian Barrette   {K:21125} 5/31/2004
Good personal assignment - slow shutter speed and unusual point of view. It works well for me. I'd say that cropping more of the top would take the bit of window out that gives a clue about where this was taken. "Train d'enfer" would be a suitable title too ?

Hahaha I'm sorry but I couldn't resist a laugh! I just imagined what that woman thought of you if she was a stranger and she saw you!

You are lucky she didn't have skirt, because maybe she would have been really angry...haha.

I like the fun in this, and the movement. Also the red colour is very good! I only like the bottom part though and would like more crop on top I think.

Hi Hugo,

well cropping to the base information, nervousness in red. It looked like a longer
shutter speed, but I trust in the D100 information ;)

The thumb on the display gave already a good idea, I love it more in big format.

hugo, how very "not-you" ;^) i like this a lot. great idea. you can definitely feel her anxiety. you shot this at 28mm?? i know that translates to 42mm in that camera but it still looks pretty close. how'd you manage to shot this without her noticing?

btw, i'm happy to see that you appear to be having lots of fun with your new "toy". how do you like it so far?

take care,
