I think that it is a flower. It was taken at the Botanical Gardens in Chiang Mai. The rest of the plant looked sort of like a very low Banana tree about 4' tall but I dont think it was.

Is it a flower? Could be a fruit or even a sort of cactus, I suppose... I see you put the bright colours over on the right and left a black area on the left again. This seems to be working for you... I also notice (again) a sort of halation in the black neat the edge of the picture. I think this could become a bit distracting if it was applied indiscriminately to every photo with a black area in it.
