About
Huon pine is a native species of pine tree to Tasmania's SW. There are only three licenced Huon pine mills in the state as this endemic tree is protected. The timber used is all salvaged by trees which have either died or were removed when hydro electric schemes were created when rivers were flooded. Here at the Strahan wharf every shape and size of timber is utilised, nothing is wasted, even the shavings are given away as they have a beautiful natural oil aroma.
This is a great shot - would look good blown up huge. The problem with shots like this is whether there's enough to interest the observer without a single 'focal point'? Good work!
