This updated version looks much better actually, and not only because of the increase in quality, and the removed power lines, but by cropping off the powerlines you also cut off some dark parts of the photograph, which gives the overall photo a less dark feel. Very good !!!

Yea, I agree about the power lines. I needed to get away from the highway and get a better shot of the sunsets. We have an area here called the hill country and the sunsets can be spectacular.

I've cropped out the lines and use a noise removing program to improve on this....

1st Sunset

Hi Peter, first of all, thanks for commenting on my sunset, I was looking at your portfolio, and took out your sunset too to comment on. I agree with the comments above, the sunset is very good, but the image quality is rather low. As for the tips you put on yourself, using a flash will not help in this situation, since the guide number of your flash will most likely be around 10 or something, which means that the flash will reach 10 meters with an ISO setting of ISO100. This will never be enough to light the whole scene, and thus to give you a fast enough shutter speed.
As for the composition, I like it, but I am not sure about the powerlines, they kinda distract in this image.

Jimmie, I took this out my car window, parked on the side of the road. I seem to have the shakey hand symbol on most of the time, even setting on a table. Here are the Manual's suggestions.

? Place the camera on a tripod.
? Use the built-in flash (p. 21).
? Increase the camera sensitivity (ISO) (p. 61).
? Zoom the lens towards the wide-angle position.

I'm hoping it's just me and not the camera...

Cannot shoot the sunset today... it's raining...

Thanks for the Help....

Peter, it looks like a beautiful sunset. Did you do something in your software to cause all the "noise?" When I get this effect in my shots, it's because I used the focus or unsharp tools too much to correct for handshake during the shot. If you didn't have your camera on a tripod and you were at the 8x zoom then I bet your original was fuzzy. I had to relearn that when you zoom(magnifying)out you are also magnifying the camera's movement. My DiMage 7Hi at 7x zoom will show the little shaking hand symbol in all but bright light. Go out and give it another try this evening. Keep shooting.

Peter, I think your compostion and framing is good. When shooting these sunset pics, make sure you are using a rather quick shutter speed, if you have the manual controls. Also, I will put the exposure value down a couple of steps when taking shots w/ very bright highlights. Also, this looks pretty noisy, so make sure your camera's "Quality Setting" is to 'Fine' or 'Best'. Thanks for sharing your photo,

Chris
