About One of the first of my Voyageur shots. Think it couldn't have been quite level, as buildings and trees seem to be leaning at odd angles. At least you can see we DO, SOMETIMES get blue skies in Japan. The urban scene is pretty untypical for Japan... You can see my friend and I hiding under the tree.

Craig, my daughter who was at UCLA, said it looked like an LA suburb... It's quite UNtypical of Japan.

Roger - sorry to have been distracted but I'm back. The trees only add to the swirl of the paving stones. This image reminds me of a variety mornings after nights in which too much scotch whiskey has been sacrificed to the gods of light! Ignore the tilt and praise the kilt...Looks fine to me - JB

It's warped left and right, but it doesn't really bother me. Anyway, how could you possibly put something round on a flat surface without any distortion!?

By the way, you didn't tell me you were going to take a trip to Southern California. ;-)

Chris, the camera rotates with a single lens behind which is a single static slit. The film is pulled steadily past the slit as the camera turns around. The width of the slit determines the shutter speed for a given speed of rotation. My top shutter speed is 1/125th sec. with the camera turning completely around in one sec. Two seconds for 1/60th, four for 1/30th, etc. Simple idea, quite difficult to execute accurately and consistently. The URL of the website for this camera is in a comment to "Gib" Gibson under "Hommage a Gildas." Or maybe "bis." Can't check it now.

Wonderful panorama once again, Roger.
I must admit, I simply can't work out how this camera works! Does it somehow rotate around taking one continuous image? If so, how can you have a shutter speed of 1/125th?! Or, has it got some kind of wierd lens that wraps right around the camera body?!! The mind boggles!!
When you've got a minute or three maybe you could post an explanation, or a link that would take us to a web page with diagrams!!
Meanwhile, I'll just enjoy the magnificent image!
Kind regards, Chris

Thanks, Antonella. The hugs are much appreciated! I have a few more of these panoramas to put up but it is pretty time consuming because my scanner is not cooperating--and the files are too big for my limited computer memory, and the software keeps crashing. Must do them after work at the office!

Thanks for the encouragement, Marcus. It's a funky camera, and takes some getting used to. I hope to do better as I get used to it... The perspective is exaggerated because it is such a wide-angle lens! I intend to use it mostly for interiors, where it will be ideal. Out of doors it's really a bit too wide.

Well,Roger, indeed the view is strange and it shows that it's one of your first shots with this camera, but it's lovely anyway! Many hugs, Antonella 7
