About Surprise! It's not pink! :-) Yes Steve, double check the photographer's name

Mature Incas (also three weeks old) and shot this morning before the birds (and cats) even woke up!

This is done with my new, home-made reflectors! Thanks to my bright and handy HB (Honeybunny, husband, Santa) I now have two reflectors made with corruplas (corrugated plastic) covered with gold mylar, with stands and all :-)) What fun - now all I need is a light meter!

I was surprised at how well it works (not because it is home-made) as it lightens up all the dark areas. Thank you to all of you that have been urging me to get the darn reflectors :-))

I still have a bit of problem with the overhead lighting - next step would be to have my HB build me a little canopy for my background stand! At the rate I am "renovating" my "mobile studio", I might as well move in there

Sorry, but it IS pink, very pink, it must be pink, it's a Currie!!! :>))
What a clever hub you have ~ get him cracking on that canopy. Then, maybe a lighting rig, suspended from the lounge ceiling?
Kind regards, Chris
P.S. Sorry my comments are getting increasingly silly, but that's over 25 pictures I've commented on in the past 1/2 hour!!

Michel, your version definitely has more punch to it :-) Because I have the original flower here in my home, I can tell that is not what it really looks like. I like to present the flower as is ... but do realise that sometimes that boundaries can be limitating.

I like your idea of getting together to synchronise computer screens :-))

Great composition, but how can one say it is too light? I would tend to say there isn't enough contrast, but that is just my opinion; I like to have a full range of lights and shadows in my pictures. Maybe we should all get together in the same room and adjust our computer screens all at once. ??)

More contrast?

Linn Currie   {K:24426} 7/4/2004
Hi Ellen

The reflectors added more light to the darker areas. In this specific image, I had a dark spot on the bottom right. See those stamens standing out against the black velvet? Without the reflected light they almost disappeared into the background.

I find yellows (and reds .. oh and whites too!)difficult to shoot - I had a lot of green in these petals and removed it, and had to tweak the contrast. Now on my screen it looks perfect (and just like the real thing), Rob Ernsting found it too bright, and you find it too dark/dull. See how different screens differ? It's all a matter of computer preference set-up, I guess?

Linn I'm confused was the reflector suposed to subdue the light? Maybe it's just my eyes but your other pictures seem to have more light. I love these flowers, could you take this without the reflectors so we/I can compare the difference?

Don, those are great compliments and I appreciate it ...but ...

No way I will ever be professional - way too much of an amateur

and ... no way I will ever leave my UseFilm friends and mentors!

But it would be nice to have a better camera though! :-))

Sure makes a warm tone and you don't have heavy shadows. You will be doing this professionaly soon and we will lose you here. Don.

Ooops! Rob, I tweaked the levels a bit because the yellow petals had a lot of green to it. Maybe tweaked too much? :-)

But yes, a learning curve with everything new .. but fun it is to learn, huh? :-))

It worked, maybe a tad too well, slightly less bright is better IMO. But that will be an evolutionary process Linn. Wonderful lilies and very well captured. Thank you for your nice and friendly comment to my photo. There will be more of these and flowers as well. Have a nice weekend and don't stay to long under the reflectors, you might lighten up as well at night. ). Regards, Rob.
