Ah, that mirror. I thought you were talking about a wall mirror or something. That makes a lot more sense.

Locking the mirror up was simply to prevent vibration while the motor was being used during an extended exposure. At the same time I was zooming the camera lens in to get multiple flash images on one piece of film. Just an extra precaution, James, because I was on tripod with a 50 to 300mm lens.

How does the mirror get used in this process?

Thanks, James. It was a test for an ad for a diet product that I did and also sold for a Sigma zoom lens ad, even though it was a Nikon zoom. They are probably made in the same place.

Again it was important to have tungsten for the blur and the black velvet which would not wash out when the mirror is left up.

I like this kind of multiple exposure work. So much of this kind of thing is being done in PS these days it's nice to see it when it is done in-camera.

Yep. All on one frame of 35mm with a zoom lens. Black velvet background. Had to use hot light for ghost images.

Glad you like it, Paul.

You are right, Lori. Thanks, for your delightful comment.

I have thought about how to do it with digital - maybe layers would work.

My partner and I did several tests to get the right combination of hot lights and strobe on film. Fortunately, with the right model this test became an ad through our stock portfolio.

Gearge, thanks for your interest and enthusiasm.

I used strobe - first for the face and figure at the widest focal length and then edge light for the subsequent exposures, as I zoomed in for the telephoto views.

It was a test for a job and ended up being sold by my stock agent for an ad for Sigma lenses.

The job was for oversized swimwear and made a hit with the manufacturer.

I would like to try this on digital at some point. Would probably have to do a long exposure and make the studio very dark during the exposures.

I never adopted this as a style, it just was fun to try something a little shocking.

Best regards, Leora.

Superb!!! This is really fantastic work. How Long did it take you to set it up? And how many shots did you end up taking? Were you able to use a strobe?
