The featureless face is pretty eerie, Russ.
What a combination of symbols!

Great design. The tones seem posterized, the face is broken into odd tones. Love your work, keep up with your passion.
cheers,
Rick

yeah that's what I meant - if it works, use it. just because a particular thing has been used by many artists in any format, that doesn't make it a cliche. An artistic nude isn't a cliche, and look how often that subject is used by artists. Also co-opting a style or subject can be used to make a statement about the source of it. I don't think that's what you're doing..but anyway...

this is the sort of image that would be burned into my brain and scare the hell out of me if the situation were right.

ha!

Irma.

I.

Thanks for the comment Irma. I guess the only reason I worry about co-opting is that the potential is always there for becoming a cliche. Still, if the the fashion industry and a pile of mens magazines like Maxim etc. don't care then why should I? Also, if the shoe fits, so to speak, then why shouldn't I use it? Cliches only became what they are because (on some level) they work. If I decide to use something it's because I've made an artistic evaluation that it's an element that would work within the context of an individual image. If it turns out that it falls flat on it's face then that's my fault as an artist.

Bladerunner is a lot about fashion anyways - you seem worried about "co-opting" problems. You've done the same thing, you know.

Good image anyways. (I don't care if people 'co-opt' things).

Irma.

Hi Pierre,
If you're asking me if this image was created with 'Star Trek' specifically in mind I'd have to say no but because I'm a fan of the series I'm sure it's always in the back of my head to a certain extent. As far as the makeup goes it was originally inspired by Daryl Hannah's character in Bladerunner but of course has been co-opted by the fashion industry to make for a more dramatic image. I found the mask in a second hand store and just thought it looked very cool. The cloak was payment for a corset shoot I did for www.nightshadecorsets.com where you can see a little more of my work.

And if that wasn't the question you were asking then ask again and I'll try to amswer. Thanks for looking.

Russ
