About A daring jump by my brother-in-law-to-be (and friend) over an extremely deep crevice at the valley of desolation, near Graaf-Reinet in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. The digicam doesn't have exposure control so I set it to the portrait mode. This opened up the aperture and thus increased the shutter speed, allowing me to freeze the action.

This guy is crazy. What a great photo. Hope he made it to the other side. This is a photo that you just aren't going to keep re-taking to get it perfect. Excellent stop action. 7+!

Very nicely done. One could imagine that brother in law to be was pasted into the photo. Nice color.

Hi!
Now this is a nice and funny picture... nice colors.. but it looks like he is not going to land on the rock (lol). I am sure he made it.

ps. Thanks for answering my question about film and digital it helped me a lot.

I actually opened the aperture up (by using portrait mode), then focussed on infinity before he jumped, waited, and snapped him in the air. I guess if I focussed on him, with the open aperture, the background might have been less sharp. I wasn't surprized that the background was sharp - that's where I focussed, was just hoping the daredevil himself was in focus - and he is, so he was probably close enough to infinity at the focal length. Just glad it worked!

Interesting that the aperture is larger, yet the background is totally sharp. You had some good light... which in turn created a neat shadow.

Amazing capture of 'the action' looks very scary to me. Love the colours of the rocks, and excellent composition, even without 'action'
